| He was getting used to this place. Despite how different it was to where he’d come from, that realisation didn’t bother him all that much. Why would it? More technology meant more things he was able to manipulate after all; being a metal manipulator was a good thing in such a place. So many options… There was almost always something nearby that he was able to manipulate; he could sense it through his powers. Focusing on that seemed to help calm him, being the only thing that was the same as he’d known it to be before ending up where he was now.
Despite getting used to the place though, something just didn’t feel quite right to Erik. He hadn’t really come across anyone yet whom he really recognised, so the place just kind of felt…empty.
Hoping to distract himself from that fact, Erik had been searching for something to do, anything. He ended up helping out a single mutant who was being bullied; by attacking those responsible and seriously injuring them, even though they were just teenagers teasing a fellow student.
As he watched a couple of the teenagers run off to get help for their friend, Erik smirked. The younger mutant, though scared, was trying to thank him, but Erik ignored the kid; something else catching his attention.
There were sounds of panic nearby, but not in response to Erik’s actions. Glancing towards the end of the alley he and the younger mutant were in, Erik frowned, seeing people rushing towards something out on the street. Curious, Erik moved to the end of the alley, watching for a moment before heading towards where a small group of people were gathering. He carefully pushed his way to the front of the group, freezing when he saw what had drawn their attention.
Opening his mouth to speak, Erik ended up just standing there for a moment in shock, not sure how to respond. Eventually, he snapped out of it, blinking a few times as he cleared his mind. The behaviour was more habit than anything; the helmet he wore with his black outfit kept him safe from any mental intrusions.
“…Charles?”

| Charles wasn't even sure what had happened, he had been alone in his unfinished Cerebro. It had been a rare moment when he had allowed his mind to become unguarded, lowering his mental shields that keep the world outside and the next thing he knew he had been in a very unfamiliar street.
That same moment hundreds of voices filled his unprotected mind, far too many and Charles held his head in pain. Unfortunately this and his sudden appearance had caused a group to gather around him, he fell to his knees as the pain became much worse. He couldn't focus on raising his shields, such strange things he saw in these peoples heads. It was nothing like he had ever seen before.
Suddenly he heard the voice of his friend, looking up through the pain he saw him. It was really him, no mistaking his face. "E-Erik?"

| "...how did you get here?"
Despite the issues they'd had and how he had last seen his old friend, Erik still frowned at the way Charles was on his knees. Erik guessed it had something to do with the people around them. For a moment, the past was forgotten, the sight of the surrounding people causing his old friend pain angering Erik. In response to his emotions, nearby electronics malfunctioned, the closest lightposts became somewhat bent and a few people cried out in pain in response to Erik's power pulling on metal fillings or other metal repairs to past injuries.

| Charles shook his head at his friend's question, he had not a single idea of how he had gotten here. He held his head tighter as he felt the pain that a few people around him felt, he needed to get away from all of the people around him long enough to get his shield back up.
He suddenly heard someone yell in the crowd, 'Its a damn mutie!' and now fear and anger from the crowd started to fill his head. He could feel and see so much fear and hate from these people, he needed to get out before his powers got even more out of control.

| Seeing the way Charles and the others were responding, Erik stopped using his power. By now, those nearest to him had actually taken in the sight of his costume, a few panicking more once they seemed to recognise the helmet he wore, although Erik wasn't entirely sure why they responded in such a way.
He turned to face the people and shook his head at them. He raised a hand, meaning to attack them as he'd done to the group of teenagers earlier, but then stopped. Glancing back at Charles, Erik sighed and then turned back to the people. Instead of hurting them, Erik simply focused on any magnetic object they had on them, pushing the objects away from himself, knocking the people off their feet in response.
While they were sprawled on the ground, Erik turned back to Charles, stepping closer to him before crouching down beside him, holding out a hand to help him up.
"Come on." Was all he said.

| The voices in his head faded a bit as some of the people began to leave quickly, but there were still far too many for him raise his shields yet. He was grateful the pain was starting to lift a little and he rubbed his head a little as he tried to focus. He looked up as Erik crouched, gratefully taking his friends hand. His legs felt a little weak, but he could stand and he looked at the people sprawled out on the ground. | |

| Erik was confused by his old friend's sudden appearance and by the fact that he seemed to have use of his legs, but he didn't bother questioning it just then. There were more important things to worry about. He carefully helped Charles up before looking around.
"We should probably get out of here..." He muttered.

| Charles couldn't help, but notice how much colder Erik seemed to be. It was almost like he had changed greatly from the man he had seen not but an hour ago, he looked around the street. "Where is here Erik? And where can we even go?" He asked softly. | |

| "I'm still working that one out." Erik replied, sounding as if the question annoyed him. He looked around again before pointing with his free hand. "That way seems like a good option." He added before pulling on Charles' arm impatiently, simply expecting him to follow without arguing. It was better than sticking around all the frightened people after all. | |

| Charles's head hurt too much to argue as Erik pulled on his arm, trusting his friend as he followed him. Something still felt off, but he knew he could trust Erik with his life. He was one of two people he just knew he could trust, the other being his sister Raven. | |

| Erik's dark cape blew behind him in the slight breeze as he led Charles away from the area, eventually taking him down a small side street to what looked like an abandoned apartment. Without explaining, he opened the door and went inside before turning to Charles with a cold look.
"Not a word about the place." He told him. It was probably barely bigger than a single room at the 'X-Mansion', but Erik could think of worse places to be.

| Charles followed him through the streets, he found it strange that Erik knew his way around this place. Had Erik been here before, he then noticed the strange clothes Erik wore. He knew for a fact that Erik had not been wearing that when they had been talking before, why would Erik have changed his clothes though?
"Erik where are we?" Charles asked again, "One minute I was in our unfinished Cerebro and the next I was in the middle of the street..."

| Ready to respond to a comment on the apartment, Erik froze when Charles asked about something completely different. "...unfinished Cer- What?" He pulled a face, trying to work out why he'd say such a thing, then thought about the Charles he'd last seen and how the one here now was standing. "...you were still building Cerebro?" | |

| "Of course... We were talking about it not even an hour ago... Don't you remember..?" Charles asked, rubbing his head where it was still hurting. He had finally managed to raise his shields again, but it still hurt. | |

| "A hour ago?" Erik shook his head. He wasn't sure what was going on, but this person couldn't have been Charles. At least not the one he knew. He went to explain that he knew that moment to be about ten years ago before he'd ended up where they were now, but guessed that probably wasn't a smart idea after seeing Charles' condition earlier.
"...well that's not where we are now." He eventually said. "This place is quite different to the ones you and I know."

| Charles knew for sure something was off, Erik seemed shocked when he brought up their talk. Like it had happened years ago for him, now that he could think again he noticed that Erik seemed to look older and his hair had changed slightly.
"What year is it?" Charles asked, the pieces slowly coming together in his mind.

| "Here? ...I don't know." Erik admitted with a shrug, before reaching a hand up to brush aside the hair that had fallen out from under his helmet. He wasn't sure he wanted to know the answer to Charles' question either. He had a feeling it was much further off than even the time between what he and this Charles remembered.
He watched the other man for a moment before deciding it was safe to take the helmet off, at least while Charles was still recovering from earlier. Still, he made sure his mind was clear again before slowly taking it off, staring down at it for a moment before putting it aside on a table.

| The answer Erik gave only left Charles feeling even more confused, his head hurt too much to even try and figure it out now. He sighed and walked over to sit in a chair, he would need to rest before he felt any better. | |

| He watched Charles curiously as he moved to sit, wondering what exactly had happened, what had brought them to the place. He thought for a moment that it might have been a joke, that Charles was acting; but some things couldn't really be faked. Shapeshifter maybe? Erik might have suspected it, if he hadn't seen the pain the people had caused the man earlier. This was definitely Charles.
With a sigh, Erik leaned against the wall, watching him with a frown.

| Charles leaned his head back slightly as he closed his eyes, his mind still working as he did. It was clear they were not in his time anymore and from the look of it they weren't in this Erik's time either, it felt strange to even think that. | |

| After a moment that felt more like an hour to him, Erik had to leave the room, worried that sooner or later his and his self taught control over his own thoughts would slip. After what Charles had just been through he didn't think it fair to put him through it again. Silently, he picked up his helmet and went into the small bedroom, putting the helmet aside before sitting on the edge of the bed, head in his hands. | |

| Charles leaned his head back before closing his eyes, he had often fallen asleep studying in college and so he knew he'd be able to fall asleep in the chair he was now sitting in. Sleep was the only thing that would help him recover from the pain from earlier and maybe he'd be able to think clearer when he woke. | |

| Almost an hour later, Erik cautiously poked his head out of his room, now changed back into normal clothes. Seeing Charles apparently asleep, he sighed and went back into the bedroom, coming back out with a blanket, which he carefully covered the telepath with before going to make tea.
"What have we gotten ourselves into this time...?" He wondered.

| Charles was still asleep an hour later, his mind healing from the pain he had earlier. His dream were filled with the strange things he had seen in those people's minds and some of the things he had seen worried him greatly. He stirred slightly when he felt a blanket was used to cover him before settling again. | |

| While he waited for his tea, Erik glanced over at Charles and found himself smiling, even if only a little. Despite everything they'd been through in his own time, Erik found his familiar presence reassuring; something he recognised in the different time they were stuck in, even if this Charles was slightly different.
He went to say something, but decided against it, letting Charles sleep instead. Erik then finished making his tea and sat down on the other armchair in the room to drink it while he waited for the telepath to recover.
