Remy LeBeau Gambit12

“It is the mark of an inexperienced man not to believe in luck.” – Joseph Conrad

Name: Remy Etienne LeBeau

Pronunciation: Reh-me Ay-tyen Le-bo

Meaning: Remy apparently means ‘oarsman’, Etienne means ‘crown’, LeBeau can be a nickname for a handsome man, from the Old French word for ‘fair’ or ‘lovely’.

Alias: Gambit

Powers: -Gambit has the ability to tap into the potential energy within an object and convert it into kinetic energy, which then gives the object a pinkish glow. When he throws a charged object, it releases the energy by exploding; his favoured cards for example, explode with the force of a hand grenade. The downside is that the larger the object is, the longer it takes to charge. Gambit can also use his abilities to accelerate an object's kinetic energy instead of converting its potential energy; for example, he can charge his Bo staff with enough kinetic energy and power to level a house. Gambit's ability to tap kinetic energy also grants him incredible superhuman physical abilities (strength, speed, reflexes and reactions, agility, flexibility, dexterity, coordination, balance, and endurance), as his body constantly generates bio-kinetic energy and so is perfectly constructed for constant motion. This gives him an added edge that he has used to his advantage by developing a unique acrobatic fighting style.
- He also has the ability to create static, because of the charged potential energy always in his body, which shields his mind from detection and intrusion by even the strongest and most powerful telepaths. The shield has the added effect of destabilizing touch-based abilities (like energy absorption).
- Gambit also possesses an unusually strong and irresistible hypnotic charm that allows him to exert a subtle influence over sentient beings, leading them to believe what he says and agree with his suggestions. However, the hypnotic charm does not work on those who know about it.

Weapons/Tools: -Gambit always carries a telescopic metal staff with him, which he uses in combat.
-He also always carries around a deck of cards, his preferred choice of objects to charge.

Theme Song: The Angel and The Gambler by Iron Maiden

Age: 32

Height: 6ft 2”

Weight: 181 lbs (81kg)

Body Type: Being martial arts trained Gambit is lean and fit. He has a fair amount of muscle, but is otherwise thin.

Blood Type: He’s never found out his own blood type, but the man known as Mister Sinister has it on file.

Eyes: Gambit was born with eyes that made his birth parents abandon him, thinking he was a spawn of Satan. His pupils are black and the irises are red.

Hair: Gambit’s hair reaches his shoulders and is a light brown, almost sandy colour.

Race: Caucasian Human, though referred to as a mutant.

Nationality: New Orleans, Louisiana (Known as a Cajun)

Birthday: Unknown, from present time

Other Physical Traits: He has a few scars from various encounters with other super-power beings. He probably won’t point them out to anyone though. Should people actually see them though, the most visible ones are claw marks from Sabretooth, like the ones on his chest and stomach that had almost killed him.

Preferred Outfits

Casual Clothes: His clothing style is neat/casual, preferably clothes that are easy to move in. He can often be seen in a button up shirt, often purple and a loose pair of trousers. He also normally always wears his trench coat, but will sometimes take it off indoors. Occasionally he wears a fedora hat. His preferred footwear is combat or steel-toed boots.

Costume: He normally wears his casual clothes but when doing particular jobs for people or taking part in missions with the X-Men he’ll occasionally wear a lightweight suit of body armour with his coat and boots.

Underwear: Normally boxers.

Family Background: Birth parents: Remy was abandoned by his birth parents soon after he was born because of the colour of his eyes.
Jean-Luc LeBeau: The man who eventually adopted Remy. He is the leader of the Thieves Guild and is responsible for Remy’s skill with a Bo staff and his various fighting skills.
Henri LeBeau: Remy’s foster brother, who is now deceased.
Etienne Marceaux: Remy’s cousin by adoption (nephew of Jean-Luc). He was killed when Remy was 15.
Bella Donna Boudreaux: Remy’s ex-wife and childhood friend. The two were from rival gangs (Bella Donna from the Assassin’s guild) and their fathers arranged a marriage to unite them. After the wedding, her brother Julien lashed out and challenged and challenged Remy to a fight to the death. Remy won and was exiled from New Orleans. From then on Remy vowed to make his own choices and abandoned Bella Donna.
Rogue/Anna Marie: Fellow X-Man and occasional girlfriend.

General History: After leaving New Orleans, Remy eventually found his way to the man known as Mister Sinister, a scientist known for experimenting on mutants, Remy wanting help to control his powers. To do this, Sinister removed a portion of Remy’s brain tissue, placing the Cajun in the man’s debt. Sinister then employed Remy as a member of the Marauders, a group of assassins who were sent to wipe out the sewer-dwelling Morlocks. Seeing the horrific results of his actions, Remy tried to stop the Marauders and was almost killed by one of them- a man referred to as Sabretooth. Remy barely escaped, managing to rescue a young Morlock who later became Marrow.

Sometime later, Remy encountered Storm of the X-Men and helped her defeat the Shadow King, who was pursuing her at the time. After helping her, Storm insisted Remy be allowed to join the X-Men, where he then met Rogue. The two started dating, only Rogue eventually left after kissing Remy and accidentally absorbing some of his memories, causing her to learn about his involvement in the Morlock massacre.

Since then, Remy has gone back and forth between being an X-Man and working as a thief for hire, never really staying in one place for too long and often travelling alone.

Talents: -Gambit is trained in multiple martial arts, such as French kick-boxing and the staff fighting technique of Bojutsu. He has also been trained in the sword technique of Fencing.
-He is excellent at hand-to-hand combat, which he uses alongside street-fighting techniques and acrobatics.
-He is also a skilled card-thrower, able to throw them with great accuracy.
-Being adopted by the leader of the Thieves Guild, he is a master thief.
-He’s a master card-shark and gambler.
-Can speak both English and Cajun French.
-Is fairly good at picking up other people’s emotions.

IQ: Remy has average intelligence but thanks to his work as a thief, is very street-smart.

EQ: While Remy deep down does care for others, his past experiences have made him somewhat selfish. He won’t hesitate to double cross someone if it means keeping himself safe.

General Personality

Positive Traits: Will try to fix his mistakes when he realises he’s made them, loyal (to those he truly considers friends), charming (but due to his power this can also be bad at times), adaptable.

Negative Traits: Somewhat selfish, crafty, inconsistent, reckless.

Maturity: Thanks to his past experiences, Remy is very mature, though he still has a sense of humour.

Relationship Status: Divorced. Has an on/off relationship with Rogue (Anna Marie). He won’t hesitate to use his charm on anyone, male or female, but so far he’s only shown actual interest in women.

Occupation: He makes his money as a thief. He’s also occasionally an X-Man, though that doesn’t involve payment. He also makes quite a bit of money playing cards, which he very rarely loses unless doing so on purpose.

Philosophy/Values: Remy does not believe in any gods and doesn’t trust many people thanks to his involvement with Sinister and the Marauders and his exile from his home. He will kill if he has to, but he doesn’t like the idea of killing innocent people (who’ve done nothing to him) like the Morlocks. Because he wasn’t told what they (the Marauders) were actually doing, Remy doesn’t like people keeping important details from him.

Quirks/Mannerisms: He often shuffles his cards, often when he’s nervous or worried. He also tends to squint a lot in well-lit areas thanks to his light-sensitive eyes.

Rational/Emotional: Remy is fairly rational most of the time, but will act on impulse at times when angry or threatened.

Shy/Bold: He used to let people in fairly easily, but is much more guarded after dealing with Sinister and the Marauders. He won’t hesitate to use his charm on people though.

Values Violated: He won’t hesitate to stop those who violate his values and will resort to violence if he has to.

When Angry: Remy can be very irrational when angry and can be very destructive if pushed far enough.

Misc Views: His cards and his Bo staff are his prized possessions; he doesn’t like people touching them. Money is a major factor in his decision making.

Minor Notes: Despite having the same face he is not my oc Artemis. A chuck of his history has also been left out so his story is more flexible to adding encounters with other characters should people want it.

Strengths: His martial arts skills, his marksmanship (mostly with cards and other small objects) and agility as well as his ability to talk his way out of situations.

Weaknesses: His eyes’ sensitivity to light and the procedure done by Sinister to lower his power levels to be more controllable.
