Character Bio: Jace Phillips has always been in poor health, for as long as he can remember. He suffered from horrible migraines, came down sick with every little thing that was ever going around, and often collapsed for no reason what so ever. His mother, Aspen, often over sheltered her only child due to his illness. If he collapsed at a sports practice, he was pulled off the team, collapsed at piano lessons, he stopped going, collapsed in the school hallway, she started homeschooling him.
Jace’s social skills suffered greatly due to his mother’s over protective nature. His only friends were often the children of the private physicians hired to tend to him over the years. Drawn in to himself by lack of companionship, and a fear of sickness brought on by the world outside his home, as a teenager Jace found comfort in writing, music, and musical theatre. Writing was safe, it was something he could do without leaving his bed, so his mother couldn’t take it from him for fear of collapse. In recent years he's taken to helping long time lover Cecil Markwell write the news stories for his radio broadcast.
Last year, they finally found an answer to the years, and years of sickness that Jace endured, as a new blood disorder was finally given a name: Factor V Pro Lieden Autoimmune. The disorder caused Jace’s blood to be unnaturally thin, thus explaining the migraines, and collapsing, and also caused his immune system to be incredibly weak. Luckily for him, in most cases the disorder can be controlled by a proper diet high in Vitamin K rich foods, but it can also be aggravated by citrus foods, alcohol, and medications that thin the blood, such as Ibuprofen.
Those who know Jace the best would describe him as rather shy, choosing to write the material for school cabarets rather than to star in them. He can be known to have a bit of a temper at times, and even be a bit reckless, mostly at his own expense. The one flaw Jace would admit to, though, is his irresponsibility. Even though he now knows what he has to do, and the special precautions that he has to take for his health, without anyone there to remind him of these things he doesn’t seem to do them. Jace is a very passionate man, however. When he finds something, or someone that he truly cares about, once he can get past his initial fears, and doubts cause by his illness he puts his whole heart into everything that he does.
